Breckenridge, Colorado

Leaving Estes Park, we drove back through Denver and west on I-70 to spend a few days in Breckenridge.

The ski resort of Breckenridge, Colorado, is located about 90 miles west of Denver and 10 miles south of I-70 on Colorado State Road 9.  In this picture you can see the ski runs cut into the mountain slopes at the edge of town.

Downtown Breckenridge's collection of restaurants and souvenir shops is within walking distance of many hotel rooms and condominiums.  The Blue River winds through the downtown area.

Judy and I found a narrow one-lane dirt road to explore the mountains.  The road winds 43 miles from Breckenridge to Como, following the path of the Denver, South Fork and Pacific narrow-gauge railroad which served the area from 1881 through 1938.

The railway crossed Boreas Pass in it's route from Denver through Breckenridge.  The railroad's construction must have been quite an engineering feat in the late 1800's.

We stayed in beautifully landscaped Tiger Run RV Park and Campground in Breckenridge.

The sign posted alongside Bubba's BBQ Restaurant and Bar reads "No Pets Allowed on Deck".  It makes you think twice about ordering the "Blue Plate BBQ Special".  We kept Sasha safely away from Bubba's deck!!
