Day 5:

Durango - San Juan Skyway - Silverton -
Telluride - Rico - Ridgway

The group makes a short rest stop between Durango and Silverton.   The Senator is to the right, wearing the red headband.  Colorado does not require helmets and Pat and I took full advantage of the freedom.

Silverton, as viewed from US-550 coming down the mountain from Durango.

Right:  We enjoyed funnel cakes at the Rocky Mountain Funnel Cakes & Cafe.  The mountain air certainly ignites one's appetite.

Below:  Streets of Silverton.  The small former mining town is the northern terminal of the Durango & Silverton narrow gauge railway.  The Senator was an excellent tour guide, describing in some detail the town's history.

The Bent Elbow, a local watering hole and former house of ill repute.
