Roe takes a break to make a phone call.   We had cell phone service sporadically until we reached Dawson Creek.

First night in Canada.  Tumbleweed Motel in Cache Creek.   Basic but clean, with a Chinese owner in a tiny crossroads community in British Columbia.

As we traveled up Canadian Highway 1 from the border, the terrain changed from mountainous to high plains desert.  As we neared Cache Creek we saw a puff of smoke just off the highway.  As we drew closer we saw a drag race track out in the middle of nowhere!  It was Saturday night and the drag races were in full swing.  We watched in amazement as two cars burned out and flew down the quarter mile track.

This crossroads town had all needed services:  a motel, service station, restaurant, liquor store, and of all things....a Dairy Queen!?
