Returning to Orlando, we had dinner with
friends Pat and Judy Byrum.
Roe, Woody, and Pat.

Monday, July 4th.
The trip begins with Roe changing a flat on Judy's car.
Are we EVER going to get on the road? |
Judy surprised us with an appropriate sign for
the trip...
Alaska or Bust!!

|
Left: Woody frequents Waffle
House restaurants and has always wanted a Waffle House visor with his
initials "WH".
After asking many, many Waffle House waitresses for
a visor, this waitress gave him one! A
great trip souvenir.
The waitress and the manager made us promise not to tell who they were
or where the Waffle House was located. Apparently it's against
their regulations to give Waffle House visors away!
|
We spent the evening of July 4th with Roe's
Uncle Gene and his wife. Gene kept us spellbound with his war
stories and albums. Gene was a decorated pilot in WWII, Korea, and
Viet Nam
|
Roe and Gene. You can clearly see the
family resemblance. |
July 5th, Shreveport, Louisiana. We
spent the evening with Roe's mother-in-law. She great up
near and went to school in Kearney, Nebraska, my wife Judy's
hometown. She shared many stories of her teaching career,
including stops in New Mexico and Venezuela.
|
July 6th. We left Shreveport and rode
for a couple of hours in the cool morning before stopping for
breakfast in Kilgore, east Texas oil country.
I ordered coffee and Roe ordered hot tea.
The waitress went
back to the kitchen and we could clearly hear the cook yell "HOT
TEA???!!???". Who the *##!&* wants HOT TEA?
Apparently they don't get many calls for hot tea in Kilgore, Texas!
The waitress said she thought her last order for hot tea was
probably back in May......... of 1990!
|
A north Texas rest stop. Multi-use
facility.....
Restroom and Tornado Shelter.
|
Roe watches for snakes at the same rest stop.
Apparently north Texas is a dangerous place! |
Woody watches for snakes from a different
viewpoint.
Across the sidewalk to the right is a sign that says "Pet Area".
Go figure!
