New Orleans 2007
Guy Weekend
Damage at New Orleans Yacht Club harbor.
A sobering sight. Boats remain in disarray after being tossed around like matchsticks.
And this is 18 months after Hurricane Katrina.
The sheer number of homes destroyed is mindboggling.
Block after block after block of abandoned homes with flood damage. Because of the length of time water remained in the homes, almost all are a total loss.
Some people stayed in their homes during Katrina, only to be trapped in their attics as the floodwater rose to depths of up to 8 feet in their homes. This home had a hole cut in the roof so the trapped could escape from the attic, hopefully to be rescued.
If you look closely you can see the waterline at the bottom of the windows.
Houses were raised from their foundations by rising water. Some floated down the street or into a neighboring house.
A conspiracy theory exists that the "government" bombed the levees to flood areas of low-income housing.
This sign is seeeking evidence.
