Dawson Creek

The 59 Mile Roadhouse in Clinton, B.C.  Roe and I were the only customers at the small restaurant run by Guido and Marjorie Ponne.  A great breakfast in an impeccably clean restaurant made for a good day's start.

Roe with Marjorie Ponne at the 59 Mile Roadhouse.

Since we were the only customers, we got THE prime corner table.

Note the highway stretching out into the mountains.

Husky is a Canadian gas stop/food store chain much like 7-11 in the US.

I saw a moose THIS BIG!  Actually, Roe models his new rain gear.

A Canadian McDonalds.  About the same menu as US.  Thank goodness Woody can get a cheeseburger and Roe can get a fish sandwich.

Roe with sticker shock.  Gasoline in Canada was over $4.00 per gallon US.  Filling two bikes ran the total to $31 dollars Canadian.  The retail exchange rate is $1.20 Canadian for $1.00 US.  This is actually better then the official exchange rate of about $1.17 to $1.  Most of the cash registers have a key to allow users to work in either US or Canadian currency.

Beautiful lake and mountain scene south of Dawson Creek.  The wildflowers are "fireweed".  Named "fireweed" because they are the first flowers to appear after a forest fire.
