Guy Ride 2000

Tuesday

Robbinsville - Deals Gap - Fontana Village - Bryson City - Asheville - Boone

After a restful evening at the San-Ran Motel in Robbinsville, we headed for Deals Gap.  Deals Gap is a "must ride" for bikers.  Leaving Deals Gap, we rode north on SR-28 to Bryson City and US-74 to Asheville for a stop at the Asheville Harley-Davidson dealer.  We then headed north on US-70 and US-221 toward Boone, North Carolina.  The twilight ride from Asheville to Boone through the Pisgah National Forest was a beautiful ride.  Grandfather Mountain greeted us as we rode into the Boone area from the south.

Highway 129 between Deals Gap, North Carolina and Tallassee, Tennessee has 318 curves in 11 miles.  It's a great ride!

Cheoah Reservoir lies at the Tennessee end of the Deal's Gap ride.  A peaceful scene after blasting through 318 curves.

Cheoah Reservoir.

Pat enjoying the view and anticipating the 318 curves back to Deal's Gap.

Ricky enjoying the sun after riding Deal's Gap.

Tim needs a little work on his rock skipping.  Maybe less than 10 pound boulders Tim?

Rooster skipping rocks across the crystal clear water.

After riding Deal's Gap, the group poses for a documentary picture.  Brent, Ricky, Pat, Rooster, Tim and Woody (behind the camera).

The Deal's Gap General Store restroom.  "In Case of An Air Raid -- Hide Under the Toilet.  It Ain't Been Hit Nary Yet!"

Nabers Drive-in, Bryson City.  An old fashioned drive-in with curb service.  Did you know there's no place to hang a tray on a Harley??

Rest stop on the way to Boone.
Pat, Rooster, Brent.

After arriving in Boone and checking in to the Comfort Suites for the evening, we went next door to Mel's Diner for dinner.

The Boone Comfort Inn has a beautiful rock fireplace in the lobby.
