More scenes along Alaska Highway 1.
The glacier glowed in the very cold looking valley.

The Kenai River.

Above and right: Native girl flagger at one of many construction
sites. The Stop sign is bigger than she is!
|
We saw many women working on road construction crews.
|
Again, a typical gas station and restaurant along Highway 1.
This one had a repair shop but there was no one there.

Old folks gather for morning coffee on the porch at Tok, Alaska.

We had just passed the U.S. Customs checkpoint
heading into Canada when we saw this large
black bear climbing toward the woods. He
stopped completely still when he heard the Harleys.
I was looking back at the U.S. border when I saw
Roe's brake lights out of the corner of my eye.
When I looked around, I saw this big bear frozen on
the embankment. For a moment I thought it was
a cutout. Then it moved and I slammed on the
brakes and reached for my camera. The bear's
behind is the only shot I got, but what an
experience!
Wonder if the bear had a passport?

The international boundary between the United States and Canada. |
Right on the border, but no split loyalty!

Welcome to the Yukon Territory.
|
And Welcome to Alaska.
|
A long way from home. We spent last night in Tok, Alaska
and are heading for Whitehorse, Yukon Territory tonight.

90 Kilometers/Hour = 55 Miles/Hour
Roe never got this figured out.
He still thinks 90 kph is equal to 90 mph.
Or at least he rides that way..... |
