See the small orange cone to the left center of the picture?
In the US, road repairs will have warnings up to a mile in advance.
In Canada, there will be a couple of small orange cones sitting beside the road.
Being slow learners, it took us a couple of hard bumps before we realized that these orange cones meant road damage, frost heaves, potholes, or something equally dangerous to motorcycles!

Beautiful Kluane Lake
The Southern Tutchone name means 'big whitefish lake'.

This lake was the most beautiful blue color.  The road followed the lake for many miles and we saw absolutely no houses.  The only buildings we saw were a boarded up restaurant and motel.  At the south end of the lake was a sign for a bed and breakfast and an airport runway but we never saw the buildings.

The peak of this island would be a great place to build a home on Kluane Lake!

Pilot cars or trucks lead traffic through the larger construction zones.  This Pilot Car has broken down.  Fortunately they had another.

Motorcycles are allowed to go the front of the line when  transversing construction zones.  This is important, since eating miles of dust or fighting recently plowed ruts behind other traffic is not a fun thing.

The Alaska Highway was in better condition than we expected.  Most of the highway is good to fair pavement with occasional frost heaves, potholes, and small sections repaired with gravel.  There are always several large construction projects underway however.  These construction zones are very slick and muddy when wet.  One section east of Haines Junction goes down a long hill and up another.  If you were to stop the bike in the mud in the bottom you might be there till the first freeze!

Another flagger.
It's hard not to stop when the flaggers are this cute.

Downtown Haines Junction on the Alaska Highway.

Woody's bike parked in front of an ice cream joint.
So what else is new?
